There are several routes to become an MOT tester.

You will need to achieve a status as a Nominated Tester (NT). This is the title of someone that is permitted to perform MOT Tests.

The first thing you need to do is make sure you are eligible.

You should be a skilled mechanic with at least four years’ experience in the motor industry in the types of vehicles you wish to test.

All candidates wishing to become an MOT testers must have:

  1. A current full UK driving licence
  2. No criminal offences connected to the motor trade or MOT testing scheme or involving acts of violence or intimidation and be of good repute:
  3. Have at least 4 years experience working in the industry
  4. Must have good english reading and speaking skills.

Am I eligible?

If you want to become a Nominated Tester for class , 4, or 7 vehicles (soon to be referred to as M1 and N1 you must have either passed the NTTA Exam or you can qualify with our IMI Light Vehicle Inspection Technician L3 qualification / accreditation.

Our MOT Tester Training courses will give you everything you need to become a successful MOT Tester.

Step 1.You will be trained in all the necessary areas in vehicle inspection and gain your Level 3 IMI Light vehicle inspection qualification.

Step 2. You will then be allowed to undertake the IMI Award in MOT Testing.

Step 3. Once you pass this second stage you can take your final VT8 final VOSA / DVSA observation. Then congratulations your a Nominated tester.
